Big Tyre is Australia’s leading manufacturer of solid rubber-tyred wheels and the leading rebuilder and repairer of rubber tracks used extensively in agricultural and excavating machinery.

The business began operations in 1954 as Vacu-Lug (Aust) Pty Ltd and became well-known for its ability to recondition tyres used in a wide range of applications, especially mining, industrial, agriculture, and transport.

Over the years, extensive experience in rubber compounds was gained by Vacu-Lug’s rubber processing plant in Sydney. The plant was sold to Toyo and is now known as Toyo Rubber Products.

Although Big Tyre is now an Australian-owned family business with no ties to Toyo, the vast majority of rubber compounds is still sourced from Toyo Rubber Products due to their proven performance over many years in the respective applications.

Through several name changes (such as Vacu-Lug and The Relug & Tread Co.) and many years, the long association with Toyo Rubber Products has assisted significantly with Big Tyre’s product development, allowing us to work together with industrial chemists to derive rubber compounds that provide top performance - from very hard high-abrasive, cut-resistant rubber for mining through to the super-soft compounds that enable us to turn a regular car tyre into a drag racing tyre that out-performs new drag racing tyres (at a small fraction of the cost).
